Here's one of my favorites from way back in the Glass Harp days (and used other times since). Don't remember exactly which tune. I think its also on the Happy solo so perhaps its tabbed on PK's electric guitar Video. I used to know that solo, but not anymore... This goes with an Am blues thing (or transpose it to wherever). The first six notes can obviously lead into other things. Excuse me if someones posted these before. E------8h9--------------------------------------------------------------- B---10----10---------------------10-10----------------------------------- G------------9s8p7-------------9----------------------------------------- D------------------10---7h9s11------------------------------------------- A---------------------9-------------------------------------------------- E------------------------------------------------------------------------ Heres another common one. Can be used in several modes, wherever it sounds good. PK especially used this one alot back in the early eighties. Transpose it all over the place. I have a copy of Phil Keaggy live at De Anza College in Cupertino from back in the early eighties (this is not a bootleg - it was recorded with permission by the sound engineer who was a friend and was only distributed to a couple of other people with strict instructions not to copy it for anyone else, which I've never done) and he uses this run many times in that concert. E---------------------------------------------12---------------------- B---------------------------13p12----12-13-15------------------------- G-----------------12-s11-14-------14---------------------------------- D--------------14----------------------------------------------------- A----12-h14-15-------------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------------- And one of his simplest but hardest to play smoothly (you all probably aready know this one). Again, played in different modes to different effect, with diffent endings. A variation is used several times on On The Fly. Played at TOP SPEED! Usually each note is picked, which is what makes it hard to play smoothly and quickly. Its very easy using hammer-ons and pull-offs. E------------------5-8-5---------------------------5-8-s10------------- B--------------5-8-------8-5-------------------5-8--------------------- G----------5-7---------------7-5-----------5-7------------------------- D------5-7-----------------------7-5---5-7----------------------------- A----7-------------------------------7--------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------------- Obviously thats a pentatonic scale. But if you play it in different modes, it can sound quite nice. Check out the acoustic solo at the end of Let Everything Else Go (original version). A similar run is used in two different modes if I remember right (don't have it anymore) and they sound completely different... -Phil
